Could today's young ladies enter Victorian Society?
Our latest Party Kit: The Victorian Tea Party.

The Mad Hatter's Tea Party: A popular Girl's Party Theme for over a hundred years.

Speaking of hats, the If the hat fits wear it, from our Blog, is a great ice breaker game for any girls party.

If the hat fits wear it.

The party themes listed here present party settings in terms of dress, decoration, style and overall party atmosphere. In this way a theme might be The Victorian Era which lends itself to period dress (including those wonderful period hats and gloves). The Victorian theme would also suggest a certain style of party decoration and party favor. All the themes listed are especially suitable for girls although many of the themes would suit a mixed audience.

The party itself will consist of a theme, games or activities and party refreshments. The party ideas listed in the girl’s party ideas section are suggestions on how to mix party theme with games in order to plan and host an enjoyable event.

Here are some girls party theme suggestions both traditional and modern although in all cases there is a universal appeal to these party themes.

The any excuse for a party theme

This is probably the most popular theme and it is really a “no theme” party. The idea is that a group of girls will get together, to watch a movie, play a game of monopoly (or some modern board game) and in general hang out and chat.

These types of parties still need some planning as the activity (or game) and possible refreshments need to be prepared.

There is a question that comes up as the “no theme” party is considered and that is when does a gathering of young ladies become a party? Although there is no right answer to this question the party ideas proposed on this site are all targeted towards a more formal gathering of friends and families in order for the assembled group to take part in organized games and activities for fun, amusement and possibly enlighten. These events, in order to be successful, typically need planning and hosting.

All that said the idea of having a party without a theme is common and party activities, especially for about 6 people, should be encouraged to promote the social interaction that this website embodies.

So the any excuse for a party theme is always a good starting point when coming up with a party idea for girls.

The Victorian Era

There is something about the Victorian era that is universally attractive to young ladies. Whether it is the dress style, romantic novels or the elegant manners and customs, the Victorian theme lends itself to many different party ideas (or events). From party invitations to party favors there is an array of items that can be used to accent any party with the Victorian theme. Our own Victorian Tea Party experience not only embodies this theme but the games and activities themselves are directly derived for the Victorian era. Games and activities that compliment the Victorian theme include:-

*The Victorian Tea Party
*Murder mystery
*Traditional parlor games
*Quiz games

Halloween

The Halloween theme needs little introduction, although the scare factor in the style will vary depending on the audience. Party games that compliment the Halloween theme include:-

*Any witch or wizard type of board game
*Magic tricks (Magician can itself be a party theme)
*The telling of scary stories: So called private theater, were each guest is asked to participate, was a social tradition in the past that encouraged and enhanced strong communication skills.

Holiday themes (Christmas etc.)

These themes align themselves with any day that is celebrated, July 4th etc., and lend themselves to certain decorations and atmosphere. Although celebrating any religious days should be done in the spirit and dignity of the occasion.

Fairy Tales and Nursery Rhymes

This is a popular theme, especially with younger girls, and under this heading I would include the princess theme. The princess theme itself does lend itself to fancy dress for younger girls as they are typically familiar with the characters. Party games and activities that compliment the fairy tails and nursery rhyme theme include:-

*Tea Party
*Story telling (either the guests or the hostess)
*Arrange a story (a game explained in our girls party games section)

Make over

The make over is really a combination of theme and activity. This, combining of themes and activities, is common to certain party ideas. The idea is simple, in that the girls give each other a make over. The type of make up (including hair styles) will vary depending on the ages of the guests. The general dress up theme, that is where the whole idea of the party is to dress in unusual (i.e. historic or elaborate) costumes, can also be mixed and matched with the make over theme.

Pirates

Although thought of as a boys party theme the pirates theme, especially following the strong female leads in movies such as the Pirates of the Caribbean, is a popular girls party theme. Games and activities that are suitable for the pirate themed party:-

*Any pirate board game
*Search or hunting game (Treasure map style)

Slumber party

One of those themes where the activity and theme mix. The slumber party is also an example of a multiple themed party in that the slumber party can be mixed with the make over or princess themes.

20’s 30’s 40’s 50’s 60’s 70’s period themes

There are certain periods that lend themselves to a particular dress style, the roaring twenties, the swinging sixties etc. These period themed parties are not only attractive because of the dress up possibilities but there is also an overall attitude and atmosphere that these periods embody that can be incorporated in any party idea. The party games and activities that lend themselves to these period themes include:-

*Mystery games
*Tea party
*Casino games (although casino itself can be a theme for a party)
